The "Munna Bhai MBBS" movies are a series of Bollywood films that revolve around the character of Murli Prasad Sharma, aka Munna Bhai, played by Sanjay Dutt. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the series includes two films: "Munna Bhai M.B.B.S." released in 2003 and its sequel "Lage Raho Munna Bhai" in 2006.
Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003):
The first film follows the story of Munna, a lovable goon who aspires to follow in his father's footsteps and become a doctor. However, due to certain circumstances in his life, he becomes involved in the underworld and leads a life of crime.
To fulfill his father's dream and to impress his love interest, Dr. Suman (played by Gracy Singh), Munna pretends to be a medical student and gets enrolled in a medical college. His close friend Circuit (played by Arshad Warsi) helps him maintain this facade.
In the college, Munna's unconventional methods, street-smart attitude, and his compassionate nature endear him to patients and even some faculty members. He forms a strong bond with the strict but kind-hearted Dean of the college, Dr. Asthana (played by Boman Irani).
Throughout the film, Munna, with his wit and charm, manages to win hearts and exposes the hypocrisy in the medical profession, ultimately proving that being a good human being is more important than just having a degree.
Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006):
The sequel takes a different turn as Munna develops a special ability to see and converse with the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi, whom he fondly calls "Bapu." With Bapu's guidance, Munna starts practicing Gandhigiri, a philosophy based on truth and non-violence, to solve various issues.
In this film, Munna falls in love with a radio jockey named Jhanvi (played by Vidya Balan). To win her heart and to deal with a real estate issue, Munna uses Gandhigiri and spreads Gandhi's ideologies, making a significant impact on society. His methods not only help in resolving conflicts but also inspire people to choose the path of truth and non-violence.
Both movies are heartwarming comedies that blend humor with social messages, emphasizing the importance of kindness, empathy, and standing up against societal wrongs. They showcase the transformation of a lovable goon into a man who uses compassion and morality to bring about positive change in the world around him.
